Portsmouth striker exit confirmed for League One Barnsley

An exit from Fratton Park has been confirmed this afternoon.

Makenzie Kirk’s loan exit for Barnsley has been confirmed.

The Blues striker, 22, has agreed a season-long loan move to the League One side, as he seeks the game time he’s been unable to pick up at Fratton Park.

The Northern Ireland under-21 international arrived from St Johnstone last summer, going on to make 14 appearances and scoring against eventual champions Covetnry City.

Pompey boss John Mousinho believes the Barnsley loan will aid his players’s development.

He said: ‘We think that Makenzie is at a stage where he needs game time and this move gives him an opportunity to continue his development.

‘Barnsley are an excellent side at that level and we believe that he can go there and do a really good job.

‘The task for him is to do well with them and then come back and be able to challenge for a place in the Pompey side.’
