Transfer gossip: Portsmouth in chase for £2.6m attacker making big impact ahead of January move
Pompey have been linked with the Senegal attacker making waves in Europe, amid a £2.6m chase in the January transfer window.
Pompey have shown interest in Senegalese attacker Ousmane Sow, according to reports.
But the Blues are said to be facing stiff competition from Danish powerhouse Brondby for the striker, who’s made a big impression in the Polish league this season.
Pompey, Brondby and Viktoria Plzen show interest in Gornik Zabrze man
Sow already has nine goals and three assists to his name with high-flying Gornik Zabrze, after moving to the Ekstraklasa outfit from Belgian outfit Lierse for £260,000 last February.
That has attracted interest from across Europe, with Gornik set to return a quick and handsome profit on the versatile operator who has been primarily operating on the right wing for his side.
It looks like Brondy are in the driving seat, however, when it comes to landing the 25-year-old, who is also said to be attracting interest from Czech outfit Viktoria Plzen.
The third-placed Danish Superliga side have already registered a number of bids with their latest offer totalling £2.6m plus add-ons, according to www.meczyki.pl.
The report suggests Sow’s preference would be to opt for one of the options away from Fratton Park due to the ‘sporting aspect’, with Pompey at the wrong end of the Championship table.
It remains to be seen how that pans out, though the suggestion is there will be a quick conclusion over where Sow makes his next move.
It’s been a fast emergence for the former Olympic Charleroi man, who found himself on standby for the Senegal squad at the African Cup of Nations.
The left-footer wasn’t part of any academy system, eventually joining a Senegalese second division side before moving to France five years ago.
Now his progress will see the powerful and direct operator likely move on again in the January window, as he eyes a place at the World Cup next summer.
Right wing needs January transfer window attention
Pompey look set for a busy period of recruitment, with the window now open for a nearly a week.
The right flank looks set to be a major area of focus, with John Mousinho’s squad looking light in that department so far this term.
Franco Umeh was recruited for that side of the pitch, but has featured just once off the bench as he dealt with a hamstring issue after joining from Crystal Palace for £500,000
With Matt Ritchie moving on, Harvey Blair has also dealt with fitness issues amid hopes he would have made a significant breakthrough this term.
That’s led to Mousinho failing to find a clear front-line option down the right, something the club’s football operation will be looking to remedy before the close of the window.
Pompey yesterday saw Minhyeok Yang recalled by Spurs and join Championship leaders Coventry, further weakening the Blues’ attacking options.
Mousinho has indicated he expects as many as six new faces to arrive, before the close of the transfer window on February 2.
