Supporters are waiting to see the multi-million pound deal for the 6ft 4in announced, as Michael Eisner gives the green light for increased transfer spending.

Pompey are believed to have tabled an initial €3m bid which was knocked back, with Almeria holding out for their asking price and a percentage of any future move for the striker.

What is clear is the agreement supersedes any previous transfer business carried out in the Eisner era, in terms of transfer fee.

That currently stands at the £1.25m paid for Aussie Hayden Matthews at the start of last year, as he joined in a record deal for an A-League defender.

You would need to go all the way back to the summer of 2008 for the last time Pompey paid more than £4.26m for a player.

French defender Younes Kaboul was that man, who joined in a £6m move from Spurs.

That followed on from an £11m agreement with Liverpool to bring Peter Crouch back to Fratton Park. That remains the most Pompey have paid for a player in the club’s history.

The Milovanović move has created excitement among supporters, who’ve seen their club pursue a series of eye-catching deals this summer.

Estonia international Rocco Shein is set to arrive in a multi-million pound transfer from Norwegian side Fredrikstad FK, with sporting director Rich Hughes confirming this week Hull City winger Abu Kamara is wanted back at Fratton Park.
