John Mousinho outlines transfer wait as Portsmouth plot loan market return
Abu Kamara, Alex Robertson, Freddie Potts and Rob Atkinson all arrived via the same route in recent years, with John Mousinho outlining plans to do the same this summer.
John Mousinho has indicated Pompey will return to the loan market this summer.
The Blues boss confirmed bringing in temporary additions will be part of his club’s transfer strategy again, even as they look to push their Championship spending levels.
Pompey will wait for arrivals from Premier League via loan market

And that will require patience before landing those loans they have lined up to come in from Premier League sides.
The loan market has been an area utlilised effectively in sporting director Rich Hughes’ time at Fratton Park, with the likes of Gustavo Caballero, Millenic Alli and Conor Chaplin brought in via that route last time.
There’s been big success in previous seasons, too, with Freddie Potts, Rob Atkinson, Alex Robertson and Abu Kamara all landed via temporary deals.
Pompey will up their spending on fees this summer, with some significant moves for the likes of Kamara, striker Marko Milovanović and midfielder Rocco Shein sought.
But that doesn’t mean the loan market will be neglected, as Mousinho outlined the pathway to completing such deals.
He said: ‘It’s a wait, particularly with the World Cup on.
‘Where are we going take our loans from? Mainly from the Premier League, mostly from the under-21s market or players who come out a little bit later from first-team squads.
‘There’s talk of loans and whenever you speak to clubs about them at this stage, it seems they are happy to put the framework in place and we can look at what that looks like for the player.
‘They then say: “They are going to start pre-season with us, they are going to go on a tour and play in a couple of pre-season friendlies while we’re waiting for our World Cup players to come back”.
‘So we’re probably looking at about three or four weeks’ time before they happen.’
While looking to loans and spending some landmark fees, Pompey look less likely to recruit any further out-of-contract players after landing Odin Bailey last week.
Zak Swanson, Marlo Pack and Connor Ogilvie have committed to new deals, but Mousinho doesn’t anticipate further free agent business
He added: ‘I think clubs are becoming more prudent and wise in securing players.
‘Even for us, the main one was Doz (Dozzell) who we would’ve liked to have back in the building, but we managed to secure Connor, Marlon and Zak.
‘But there’s fewer and fewer of those premium free transfers available. We’ve found that over the past couple of years, it’s a tough market to operate in.’
