Report: Portsmouth agree deal for international midfielder

The Gambia international is said to be closing to arriving from Antalyaspor, after moving to Turkey from Swedish side IFK Norrköping last year.

Pompey are closing in on a deal for Gambia international Jesper Ceesay, according to reports.

An agreement has reportedly been reached with Turkish side Antalyaspor to bring the midfielder to Fratton Park next season.

Ceesay ‘will be wearing a Portsmouth shirt’

A €1m fee is said to have been settled upon with the troubled outfit, who were relegated from the Turkish Süper Lig last season.

Ceesay has been with Antalyspor for a year, with the 6ft 4in man joining from Swedish outfit IFK Norrköping.

Now he is set to become part of Pompey’s summer overhaul, according to Turkish media outlet 7.

Their journalist Koray Geçgel stated today the Swedish born central operator Ceesay will be a Pompey next term unless there’s a late twist in the transfer narrative.

He said: ‘There is an official offer to Jesper Ceesay.

‘Unless there's a major surprise next season, he'll be wearing the Portsmouth shirt from an England Championship team. The transfer fee to be paid is also set. ‘

Antalyaspor need to generate funds this summer, with the club under a transfer ban since the start of May for unpaid transfer fees.

That includes the €447,000 agreed with IFK for Ceesay last summer, with that one of 15 unresolved cases and the club needing to raise €3m.

The midfield department is an area of major focus for Pompey this summer, with Odin Bailey and Rocco Shein already recruited in that area of the pitch.

A bid to bring in Dutch midfielder Gibson Yah hit the buffers, with the Dutchman instead moving to Championship rivals Bristol City.

Pompey were also linked with Hungarian Mate Tuboly, but a £1.3m move is now reportedly off the agenda, with German side Schalke said to be keen along with Watford and Swansea City.
