Transfer gossip: Portsmouth move for £2.5m Luton Town forward to bolster front line

Pompey are at the head of the queue to bring in striker Jacob Brown, according to reports.

The Blues are said to be chasing the Luton Town man, as they aim to bolster their front line ahead of tonight’s 7pm deadline.

The versatile attacker who moved to Kenilworth Road from Stoke City for £2.5m three years ago, would supplement John Mousinho’s options in the number nine department.

League One side Barnsley were said to be showing interest in the 27-year-old ahead of tonight’s 7pm deadline, but the Blues moving in now makes them the favoured option - according to Football League World.

Brown has endured a difficult period with the Hatters, after being limited to eight appearances this term following on from a knee injury at the start of the season.

He bagged four Championship goals last term, has extensive second-tier experience and played in the Premier League when joining Luton.

Brown hit 14 goals for Stoke in the 2021-22 season and followed that with nine finishes the following term, prompting the Hatters to make their move.

The former Chesterfield man is a versatile operator and can play across the front line, but has played the most football in his career as a number nine.

Pompey, of course, are facing being without Colby Bishop, who left Fratton Park in a protective boot when picking up an ankle injury against West Brom.

The Blues are awaiting news over the extent of that issue, but were already in the market for a striker before that potential setback.
