Report: Pompey set bring in NAC Breda keeper as transfer business hots up

The NAC Breda is set to arrive in a deal worth more than €600,000, according to reports.

Pompey have agreed a deal to bring in Polish keeper Daniel Bielica, according to reports.

The Blues are said to have settled upon a fee north of €600,000 (£508,000) with Dutch side NAC Breda for the 27-year-old.

Negotiations have been taking place with the side who were relegated from Eredivisie last season, where Bielica featured extensively making 33 appearances.

NAC were said to be looking for €800,000 for their player, but the two clubs found common ground with the former Gornik Zabrze man now finalising his arrival at PO4 - according to Dutch outlet Voetbal International.

Bielica’s name first surfaced last week, with suggestions two bids had been made for the player - the second totalling €500,000 (£426,000).

The 6ft 3in man was keen to move to Fratton Park, with Bielica looking like he will get his wish to join John Mousinho’s men.

Pompey are looking to improve their goalkeeping department, with Mousinho’s preference to have four options in the building for training purposes.

Austrian Nicolas Schmid is established as first choice, with Ben Killip and Josef Bursik the other keepers at present.

Bursik is sidelined with a quad issue picked up at the end of last season, which is expected to keep him out until September.

Academy graduate Toby Steward is continuing his education at St Johnstone, with a loan return agreed with the SPL new boys after sealing a new three-year contact earlier this month

Jordan Archer was released at the end of last season, with Bielica now seemingly set to arrive and bolster the goalkeeping department.

He said: ‘I don’t think this is a summer of building, I think this is a summer of change.

‘I think this is a summer of really moving away from where we’ve been over the past couple of seasons - so I think there’s a lot of work to do in the squad.

‘I expect there to be big changes to the squad by the time the dust settles on September 1.’
