The 2026 summer transfer window is now officially open, with clubs able to do business.
Over the years, there have been a number of season-defining transfer windows which have heralded success - and also some absolute stinkers.
Here we rank Pompey’s last 12 summer windows, starting from the worst and finishing at the very best…

13. 1) Summer of 2015
New boss Paul Cook was challenged with overhauling a squad which had registered the lowest finish in Pompey’s Football League history in 2014-15. It proved to be a remarkable transfer window. The bulk of the new signings secured the League Two title two years later, while the likes of Matt Clarke, Christian Burgess and Gareth Evans won the Checkatrade Trophy in March 2019 - almost four years on. Of Cook’s 14 players recruited that summer, fees were paid for Kal Naismith, Gary Roberts and Burgess, with nine others arriving on free transfers. Those free agents included Kyle Bennett, Evans, Enda Stevens, Michael Doyle and Ben Davies, while a teenage Clarke arrived on loan from Ipswich. That outstanding summer of recruitment set in motion an era which would spark Pompey’s long-awaited climb back up the Football League.
