When it comes to identifying targets, sometimes looking back to the past is a decent way to gain clues about what may happen in the future.
So we’ve looked back to each of the names who surfaced as reported targets in January, look at how things stand with them at present and what may happen with them this summer.
9. Paris Maghoma (Brentford)
Pompey explored the possibility of taking Brentford's Paris Maghoma on loan in the January window, though the Premier League side weren't keen on doing business. Hasn't featured extensively with the Bees since, however. | Getty Images
10. Ryan Ledson (Huddersfield)
Another transfer window regular when it comes to Pompey and was mentioned again in the summer. Nothing in that though, with the midfielder since joining Huddersfield. | Getty Images
11. Isaac Hayden (Newcastle United)
Made 17 appearances after joining Pompey from Newcastle United, with his influence growing across his Fratton stay. Has a year to go on his whopping Magpies deal worth £50,000 per week with midfielder honest about the likelihood of a permanent Pompey move as a result. Will likely go out on loan again.
