Portsmouth latest on move for winger linked with Derby County and Bolton Wanderers as boss issues transfer spending update
The likes of Oxford United, Reading, Luton Town and Barnsley have been linked with the winger along with Pompey. Here’s the latest tonight, as John Mousinho talks further transfer window spending.
Pompey are not looking to make a move for Chesterfield’s Armando Dobra.
But Blues boss John Mousinho has confirmed there’s still money to spend on new signings, as the transfer window reaches its climax.
Chesterfield man not wanted but Pompey pushing on with spending plans
Mousinho has stated the Blues will potentially pay fees for a ‘couple more’ arrivals, before the close of summer trading at 7pm on Monday evening.
A winger and a striker are in Pompey’s sights, with Crystal Palace’s Franco Umeh and St Johnstone’s Makenzie Kirk still being pursued.
One player who won’t be coming to Fratton Park, however, is Chesterfield’s Dobra, after the Blues were linked with the winger on Sunday.
Pompey were credited with interest in the 24-year-old with a stack of clubs, including Derby County, Bolton Wanderers, Oxford United, Reading and Luton Town.
The News understands, however, Pompey are not looking to advance a move for the former Ipswich Town man at present.
There looks certain to be incoming activity before the close of summer trading however, with Umeh believed to be a player who’s still of interest.
Pompey are looking for a loan deal for the 20-year-old and have spaces to fill when it comes to temporary signings, with Florian Bianchini and Minhyeok Yang the current loanees in the building and five slots available.
Meanwhile, Kirk is seen as the kind of up-and-coming option who fits the bill to join the striking department, though Peterborough United are also keen on 21-year-old and have seen a £500,000 bid knocked back.
Pompey are pushing on with both deals, with Mousinho this evening providing the latest picture on spending to add to the seven new faces already at PO4.
Mousinho: Money to spend on potentially a ‘couple more’ signings
He said ‘We’ve shown over the last eight months (there’s money to spend).
‘We stepped up the transfer budget this time last year to a level which was much higher than the summer before. The summer before was a minimal outlay and we spent a bit more in the January to bring Callum Lang and Owen Moxon in.
‘Then we spent a bit more last summer and then our first significant fee in January to bring in Hayden Matthews. At the time we’d already brought Rob (Atkinson) in and Hayden was that one on top, that one extra and a luxury we didn’t bank on.
‘But it was really nice because we went to the owners and said here’s a player we feel will really improve us and ultimately we used.
‘Then we’ve stepped it up again this summer with the increased spending on Adrian (Segecic), Mark (Kosznovszky), Luke (Le Roux) and Josh (Knight) - and possibly a couple more as we go to the close of the window.
‘I say it but I think I’m accurate in terms of what I say, because we’ve actually gone and done it.’
