Former Portsmouth favourite Abu Kamara’s future under spotlight with Hull City forced to sell
The Premier League new boys need to sell quickly, with the transfer window opening in eight days. That could offer chances to those who want players not wanted at the MKM Stadium next season.
Abu Kamara’s Hull City future is once again in focus as his club admitted they have to quickly shift players.
Tigers owner Acun Ilcali acknowledged the Premier League new boys must shift players before July 1 to balance the books.
Hull City owner: ‘We have to sell players before July 1
And that could present opportunities to those looking to take players the play-off winners deem surplus to requirements.
Hull have been under a transfer embargo for two windows over late payments on loan signings, but are still in danger of breaching outgoing profit and sustainability (P&S) rules.
They are measured over a rolling three-window period, but will be replaced by real-time monitoring under incoming squad cost ratio (SCR) rules.
The situation means there will be quick exits from the MKM Stadium, when the transfer window opens in eight days - as Ilcali acknowledged.
And he indicated there are Hull squad members who already know they are going to be on their way.
Speaking at a Hull City Q&A, the club’s owner said: ‘We have overspent and we have to sell some players before July 1.
‘I don't say that it will be very easy or very hard.
‘Now we are a Premier League team, the values (of players) has raised up which is a good advantage.
‘We have some players that know they will not be able to play with us.
‘Now we will work on that and solve this problem. It's a new task, and we will manage it. I'm not afraid.
‘We have managed harder things. For us, this is more manageable.’
Given Hull’s situation, Kamara is naturally going to be a player whose position is under the spotlight.
The League One title winner at Fratton Park spent the campaign on loan in La Liga with Getafe, after a maiden season of struggle with Hull after his £4.5m switch from Norwich City.
An ankle issue kept the 22-year-old sidelined for three months this term, with his season amounting to 16 appearances.
Kamara has previously been open about his affinity with Pompey, who are known to have kept tabs on his progress since the Londoner’s exit from PO4.
The Blues were keen to explore a permanent deal for the winger two years ago, but it soon became apparent that was not on the cards when Hull stumped up a sizable fee to secure Kamara’s services.
The picture may be a different one now, however, with Pompey indicating they are willing to up their level of spending and Kamara’s parent club needing to carry out some quick business.
