Portsmouth boss' transfer admission over Adrian Segecic amid Birmingham and Wrexham links

The Croatian under-21 international had been linked with a £7m bid last month

Adrian Segecic remains a Pompey player - and John Mousinho is adamant there was never even a bid for him.

Indeed, Pompey had braced themselves for possible late interest in the popular 22-year-old ahead of Tuesday’s deadline day after a goal-scoring start to the campaign.

However, according to Mousinho, no bids for Segecic materialised, despite ongoing speculation he could depart Fratton Park for as much as £7m.

And the former Sydney FC attacker continues to be a key Blues player - until January at the very least.

‘We didn’t have any bids’

Mousinho told The News: ‘I think there was interest, but nothing concrete, nothing which came to my attention. We didn’t have any bids.

‘We have been business as usual with Segs, always having one eye on what might happen if he went out, but it never came to it.

‘It’s a positive for us, we now have Segs for another period of time and, ultimately, we were pretty open about what we feel might happen. It didn’t actually happen, it didn't come to fruition, so we’re here and we’ve managed to retain the player, which is really good news for us.

‘He’s always been unbelievably dedicated, he has never asked to leave, he has never talked about wanting to leave. If there has been that talk and been that interest, it has not been generated from his side.

‘It has been from the fact he has scored 13 goals so far in not a huge amount of starts for this football club.

‘I’m surprised there weren’t any bids, I thought there would be more through the summer. It’s our gain, but I thought there might be more.’

Wrexham’s £2m bid for Terry Devlin rejected in January

Segecic has started the season positively for Pompey, with two goals in his opening five appearances.

Currently preferred in the number 10 position, it takes his tally to seven goals in his last eight Blues outings, stretching back to the final month of last season.

Another youngster Mousinho was expecting to attract attention this summer was Terry Devlin, who scooped 17 player awards last term in recognition of an outstanding 2025-26.

It was anticipated that former suitors Wrexham would return for the Northern Ireland international, who had a £2m bid rejected in the January window.

However, nothing emerged and the 22-year-old remains at Fratton Park, where he has established himself as first-choice right-back.

Mousinho added: ‘There was a bit (of interest) with Terry, but it’s good, we’ve managed to maintain two of our really good young assets.

‘Terry swept the board last year with all the Player of the Season awards, which was brilliant and, maybe off Segs’ back end of the season, we thought he might have got more interest.’
