'Wants to go' - Hull boss makes Abu Kamara admission - but it's not something Portsmouth faithful will want to hear
Former Pompey favourite Abu Kamara is closing in on his move away from Hull City - but don’t expect the Blues to come in for a late swoop
Any Pompey fan hoping the Blues can swoop under the radar and return Abu Kamara to Fratton Park before the transfer window closes are set to be disappointed.
Despite the loan arrivals of Florian Bianchini (Swansea) and Minhyeok Yang (Spurs), the Fratton Park outfit remain keen to strengthen their options out on the wing before Monday’s 7pm deadline and have retained an admiration for Kamara following his stint with the club in 2023-24 that produced eight goals and 10 assists, plus the League One title.
But, in honesty, Pompey having an appreciation for the current Hull City forward is about as far as it goes at this moment in time as the player closes in on a move away from the MKM Stadium.
Just 12 months into the four-year deal he signed with the Tigers following his reported £4.5m move from Norwich City last summer, Kamara is widely expected to complete a loan move to La Liga side Getafe.
The Madrid-based side have emerged as the stand-out favourites for the England under-20 international’s signature, despite reported interest from Birmingham and Glasgow Rangers.
And in a telling development that sections of the Fratton faithful will find hard to bear, it appears Getafe’s desire to land the player is being reciprocated, with Kamara - according to Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic - also desperate for the move to go through.
What Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic has said about impending Abu Kamara exit
Hull are currently working on a one in, one out transfer policy amid strict transfer conditions imposed on them by the EFL that prevents them from paying a transfer or loan fee for two windows.
Like Pompey, they remain keen to strengthen their options in the coming days, with Besiktas midfielder Amir Hadziametovic their top target.
Their ability to strengthen will depend heavily on what happens to Kamara. But according to Jakirovic, the former Pompey favourite wants to leave and is intent on making Getafe his latest club.
‘We must take somebody in (a transfer) that will be one of our first 11, or first 13 players, which is something that we always try and do,’ the Croatian told Hull Live.
‘It's difficult. I don't want to lose Abu Kamara, but this is the only solution, and Abu wants to go to Getafe. This is also his wish. Of course I understand this because a football career is very short, so you have to try at least to play on this level.’
Jakirovic added: ‘We need a midfielder for sure. Now (we need a) winger if Kamara is off, but we expect (Mohamed) Belloumi and (Liam) Millar back, so we will see.’
When confirmation of Abu Kamara’s Hull exit can be expected
Kamara wasn’t named in Hull’s match-day 20 for their 3-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday - a result that leaves them 15th in the standings on the same points as the Blues
Instead, it’s understood that the winger was in Madrid on Friday to undergo his Getafe medical.
Confirmation of his loan move to the Spanish capital is expected any time soon.
