Huge former Portsmouth favourite Abu Kamara on brink of Hull City transfer exit as new suitors emerge

Former Pompey favourite Abu Kamara looks poised to leave Hull City after a summer of transfer speculation

The saga surrounding the future of former Pompey favourite Abu Kamara looks poised to come to an end.

The 22-year-old, who won the League One title with the Blues in 2023-24, has been the subject of much transfer speculation all summer.

Pompey, Rangers and Swiss side FC Basel are just some of the clubs who have been linked with the Hull forward’s services during the current transfer window.

Now it appears that the winger could finally have played his last game for the Tigers, with Hull Live claiming a move away from the MKM Stadium ‘could be completed soon’.

Indeed, they’re reporting that the Championship side are currently holding talks with three clubs over a permanent exit.

Rangers and Birmingham City are said to be two of the outfits attempting to negotiate a route out of Hull for Kamara after lodging bids. Yet it’s La Liga outfit Getafe, who are apparently leading the chase, with a move to Madrid appearing the most likely destination for the in-demand winger.

Hull are reluctant to part ways with a player who joined them for a reported £4.5m last summer, following his heroics for the Blues.

But with the money they splashed out on the forward in 2024 set to be met, they’ve opened the door for Kamara to leave.

The winger, who registered eight goals and 10 assists for Pompey during their recent third-tier title-winning season, was named in Hull’s starting XI for their goalless draw against Coventry on the opening day of the season.

He found himself on the bench for the Tigers’ Carabao Cup tie againt Wrexham on Tuesday night. But came off the bench to score from the penalty spot as Hull exited the competition 5-3 on penalties.

Since moving to the MKM Stadium, Kamara has featured 39 times for the club in all competitions, scoring five goals and registering three assists.

Pompey are known admirers of Abu Kamara

Pompey have retained an admiration for the player since his Fratton Park departure. But speaking in July, sporting director Rich Hughes admitted a deal would be difficult to deliver.

He said: ‘It's always really tough to do it and I think you take Hull as a sort of working example - they've gone under an embargo and I think the natural reaction would be they have to sell players.

‘But, also, you can't lose sight of the fact that they may not be able to replace them and I think that's probably the flip side of that coin - so that becomes really difficult.

‘So, he’s Hull's player, we completely respect that, and is he a player we'd be interested in? Yes, absolutely. Is it one that we'll be able to do? We have to wait and see and see how that pans out. Again, when you talk about these unknown factors, you look at Hull's situation and, again, there's an incredible amount of grey areas in that sort of set up to get a deal done.
