Portsmouth man returns after seven-and-a-half month absence to boost Blues for crucial Middlesbrough clash

John Mousinho has made two changes to his starting XI for the trip to Middlesbrough

Connor Ogilvie has lost the appeal against his controversial Oxford United sending off.

And with the long-serving left-back now suspended for three matches, Jordan Williams replaces him in John Mousinho’s side at Middlesbrough.

It represents the defender’s first Blues start since December against Derby, ending a three-and-a-half month absence.

Williams is among two changes for Pompey, with Madiodio Dia also handed a recall against the promotion-hunting side for the Riverside Stadium fixture.

With Mousinho again keen to nurse Conor Shaughnessy through the relegation run-in following an injury-hampered season, the Senegal centre-half replaces him.

That would potentially allow Shaughnessy to start against Ipswich in Tuesday night’s rearranged fixture.

Elsewhere, Thomas Waddingham is named in a Pompey squad for the first time since August 30, having recovered from long-term injury.

He is joined by Ibane Bowat as changes to the bench from the 2-2 draw against Oxford on Easter Monday. However, Luton loanee Jacob Brown isn’t included in the 20-man squad.

Pompey: Schmid, Devlin, Poole, Dia, Williams, Pack, Dozzell, Caballero, Chaplin, Anderson, Bishop.

Subs: Bursik, Shaughnessy, Bowat, Le Roux, Swift, Segecic, Alli, Blair, Waddingham.
