Portsmouth signing handed debut at Sheffield Wednesday - but fellow new recruit made to wait

With the Blues missing five wingers through injury, naturally Alli comes straight into John Mousinho’s starting XI, lining up on the left wing.

The Luton loanee is one of three changes to the side which faced Arsenal in the FA Cup last Sunday, with Nicolas Schmid and Connor Ogilvie also recalled.

Luke Le Roux drops to the bench, with Ogilvie coming in at left-back and Zak Swanson moved up into the centre of midfield to partner Andre Dozzell.

Meanwhile, Schmid takes the place of Josef Bursik in goal, having been rested from the 4-1 defeat against the Gunners.

There is no Marlon Park in the 20-man squad, despite having appeared off the bench in that FA Cup encounter at Fratton Park.

While teenage striker Tayo Singerr returns among the substitutes, seeking to add to his solitary Football League appearance at Bristol City on New Year’s Day.

Pompey: Schmid, Devlin, Poole, Shaughnessy, Ogilvie, Swanson, Dozzell, Segecic, Chaplin, Alli, Bishop.

Subs: Bursik, Williams, Bowat, Farrell, Le Roux, Adams, Swift, Kirk, Singerr.
