Transfer news: Former Fulham defender to leave Portsmouth within the next 48 hours

Ibane Bowat is poised to become the latest player to depart Fratton Park during he current transfer window

Ibane Bowat is closing in on a Pompey exit.

The defender’s Fratton Park departure is expected to be officially confirmed within the next 48 hours.

But unlike Makenzie Kirk and Jordan Williams, who have joined Barnsley and Blackpool respectively on loan, the 23-year-old - who is under contract until 2027 - will leave PO4 on a permanent deal and earn Pompey a transfer fee.

John Mousinho revealed back in June that the centre-back was free to leave this summer, with the Blues having six specialist centre-halves on their books.

And on Saturday he confirmed that exit was now imminent as Bowat failed to travel with the squad for their last pre-season game of the summer against SV Darmstadt 98.

Speaking after his side’s goalless draw at the Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor, Mousinho told The News: ‘We're hopefully close to a move for Ibane.

‘I'd be very surprised if we don't have confirmation within the next 48 hours. I think just watch this space. On Monday, I think it should be announced.

‘I don't think we're completely there yet. I'll have to catch up with Rich (Hughes) over the weekend and see what we're up to.’

The centre-back has been with Pompey since the summer of 2025 following his move from Fulham.

However, his maiden season at Fratton Park was ended just days after arriving after he suffered a serious knee injury in training.

Bowat returned to the first-team squad last term but was restricted to just 18 appearances in all competitions.

The former Hartberg loanee returned two crucial goals in that time, though, scoring winners against Blackburn Rovers last December and the success against Leicester City which effectively kept Pompey in the Championship.

Bowat has featured twice for Pompey in pre-season, but was an unused substitute in last weekend’s defeat at the hands of Wycombe, which will prove to be his last match-day squad involvement at the Blues.

It’s understood the defender was keen for more regular game time.
