Done deal: Keeper completes €600,000 transfer to Portsmouth as Blues' business gathers pace

Daniel Bielica has sealed his much-anticipated move from NAC Breda to Pompey

Pompey have secured goalkeeper Daniel Bielica’s transfer from NAC Breda.

The Blues have finally confirmed the signing of the 27-year-old after negotiating his release from the Eerste Divisie side.

Although the actual fee has not been disclosed, it’s understood Pompey have paid €600,000 to land the Poland-born keeper

Bielica has signed a three-year deal with the Fratton Park club that runs until 2029.

The move is also subject to registrations being confirmed by FIFA, The FA and the EFL.

He’s the fifth new addition to John Mousinho’s squad this summer following the completion of moves for Odin Bailey, Eoin Kenny, Rocco Shein and Marko Milovanovic.

How Bielica move transpired and his competition at Pompey

Confirmation of Bielica’s arrival comes two weeks after Pompey’s interest in the former Gornik Zabrze stopper first emerged.

At the stage it was reported the Blues had two bids rejected for the player, with the second said to be €500,000.

But with Bielica keen to make the switch to England, common ground was eventually struck with Breda, who were initially wanting €800,000 for their No1.

The final transfer fee will be more than the €400,000 figure Pompey agreed with BW Linz for current PO4 No1 Nicolas Schmid in the summer of 2024.

The Blues have been looking to improve their goalkeeping department after conceding 64 goals in last season’s Championship.

Austrian Schmid is established as first choice, but the arrival of Bielica is expected to provide him with greater competition.

Ben Killip and Josef Bursik are also currently on the Blues’ books.

However, Bursik is currently sidelined with a quad issue picked up at the end of last season, which is expected to keep him out until September.

Academy graduate Toby Steward is continuing his education at St Johnstone, with a loan return agreed with the SPL new boys after sealing a new three-year contract earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the experienced Jordan Archer was released at the end of last season.
