Portsmouth hand 3-year deal to midfielder after '€300- €400k' transfer fee agreed

Pompey have agreed a deal for midfielder Iyad Mohamed

Pompey have announced the signing of midifielder Iyad Mohamed.

On Wednesday, French media claimed the Blues had struck a deal for the defensive midfielder, who had been plying his trade for Casa Pia is Portugal’s Primera Division.

Blues fans were told the Dunkirk-born Comoros international was ‘set to sign’ for the Fratton Park outfit to help bolster their engine room.

Now he has, with the 25-year-old officially signing a three-year deal at PO4.

A statement released by Pompey confirming Mohamed’s arrival said the fee paid for his services is undisclosed.

However, reports in France claim Pompey have paid their Lisbon counterparts a figure between €300,000 and €400,000 for the former Auxerre and Caen player.

Mohamed represents Pompey’s 10th signing of the summer transfer window.

The Blues have endured significant difficulties recruiting a defensive midfielder this summer, with deals for Gibson Yah and Jesper Ceesay falling through.

In the case of the latter, a fee had been agreed with Turkish side Antalyspor for the Gambia international, only for the move to collapse due to Ceesay unable to obtain a work permit.

Yah subsequently joined Championship rivals Bristol City.

Mohamed had been operating in the Portuguese top flight for the past two seasons, helping Casa to ninth and 16th-place finishes in the league.

The 28-times-capped Comoros international featured 35 times for the club in that period, but was not been part of manager Filipe Coelho’s plans for his side’s first three games of the season as he was forced to watch on from the stands.

Mohamed was into the final 12 months of his Estádio Pina Manique contract.
