Portsmouth rivals Wrexham close in on right-back as Birmingham enter race for £9m forward

The very latest transfer headlines involving Pompey’s Championship rivals.

Pompey are gearing up for a frenetic end to the transfer window.

Despite already adding nine new players to John Mousinho’s ranks, at least another three fresh additions are expected to be added to the Blues squad over the next seven days.

Meanwhile, there’s departures to be negotiated as well to save Pompey from de-registering players once the trading period comes to a conclusion.

It promises to be an exciting few days at Fratton Park.

But Pompey aren’t the only ones looking to apply the finishing touches to their ranks,

The rest of the Championship are in the same boat as we enter the final throws of the window.

With that in mind, here’s the latest transfer headlines involving Pompey’s second-tier rivals.

Wrexham to make second right-back signing, with left-back on way too

Wrexham are on the brink of landing two full-backs on permanent transfers.

The Red Dragons, who are known admirers of Pompey defender Terry Devlin, are set to welcome right-back Issa Kabore back to the Racecourse Ground, after he spent last season with Phil Parkinson’s side from Manchester City.

The Welsh outfit are also advancing in their moves for Angers left-back Jacques Ekomie, who is now into the final year of his contract and had been attracting interest from West Ham and Hamburg.

Twenty-five-year-old Kabore featured 32 times for Wrexham last season, registering seven assists. He’s currently valued at €3.8m by Flashscore.co.uk.

Gabon international Ekomie is valued at €8.3m.

Kabore is Wrexham’s second new addition at right-back, following Danny Imray’s move from Crystal Palace earlier in the window.

Birmingham join race for £9m-rated Ipswich forward

Birmingham City have emerged as contenders for Anis Mehmeti’s signature before the close of the transfer window.

The Daily Mail are reporting the Blues have joined Wrexham and Derby in targeting the attacking midfielder, just eight months after he moved to Ipswich Town from Bristol City.

The Albania international has been omitted from manager Gary O’Neill’s first two games of the season and is supposedly available for a transfer.

However, the 25-year-old won’t come cheap, with the Tractor Boys supposedly wanting £9m for the playmaker.

Birmingham have already made six signings this summer but are yet to win in the Championship this season, placing manager Chris Davies under pressure.

They travel to Wrexham on Friday night.
