We asked Portsmouth fans who is to blame for latest Championship relegation battle? Here's how they reponded
Pompey supporters have been voicing their opinions on why the Blues find themselves fighting for their Championship survival for a second year running
Plenty of Pompey fans have been airing their views in recent days, following Saturday’s 6-1 humiliation at QPR.
From the supporters in the stands at Loftus Road, to those wanting to vent their frustrations on social media, no-one is short of an opinion or two.
With that in mind, we asked our followers on Facebook, where the blame lies for the current situation the Blues find themselves in?
After all, Pompey sit just one point and one place above the Championship relegation zone following five defeats in six league outings. They now have just eight games remaining to save their second-tier status.
As always, many took up our invitation to share their verdicts. And it appears. there’s no-one within the footballing structure who should be feeling okay with what they’re currenty producing at this hugely important part of the season.
Here’s how fans responded to our question....
Ali Lance: Recruitment has been absolutely terrible. Why do we persist with buying these young c£1m players from other clubs hoping we can turn them into £10m future stars as a substitute for having our own proper academy. Le Roux, Kirk, Matthews, Bowat, Blair, Umeh, Waddingham, Kosznovszky, Farrell, Dia.
None of those players are currently Championship level ready which is what we actually needed to compete in this division this season.
Andy McLeod: Many issues but it starts with the budget.
Richard Knight: Everyone from the owners, the management team, the coach and the players… the only innocents are fans suffering whilst paying for the privelege..
David Smith: Cullen, Hughes and JM, all guilty of wasting money on punts that have backfired. These people who have no top‑league experience. We’re OK in League One and League Two, but they obviously have no understanding of what is required in the Championship.
Richard Storey: You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I am all for canny investment and common sense but you can't keep shopping at the bargain basement and expect results.
Barry Hussey: Owners, recruitment, executive and head coach, absolutely. Each has a different part of the blame to shoulder.
Mick Colthup: Apathy - ambition = relegation. There are a lots of people who are culpriable and look at Sunderland and Wrexham. Clubs with desire to go forward and are, where as we are going no where.
Paul Shergold: JM picks the team and strategy, it’s been mind baffling at times. It’s a league too far for him at this time of his career. As for recruitment that's down to Hughes.
Christopher Anderson: Third lowest budget in the division, and Wednesday can't spend! The buck starts and stops with the Eisners, freebies, loans, don't want to pay for quality.
Glyn Tookey: Mostly Eisners for not investing but they listen to Cullen, who listens to Hughes.
Daniel Quilter: It's the whole situation. Players, manager, injuries, owners, recruitment team, everyone needs to go up a level or 2 to stay in the Championship or get lady luck on our side for half a season.
Rich Pitman: JM has run out of ideas and the team playing in wrong positions.
Gary Walters: It's a collective problem. Owners, recruitment team, head coach, coaching staff, players.
Phil Glasspool: Players and managers need to really look at themselves, they are both equally responsible for our current demise, players not performing and management not making good tactical decisions.
Keith White: Unless the owners sort out the budget we are always going to struggle in this league. The Man City manager would be unable to make a silk purse out of the players recruited and already here. Sacking John would be a mistake, just give him the tools to do the job.
