Portsmouth's Championship rivals West Brom sack manager Ryan Mason as relegation fears grow
Pompey’s Championship rivals West Brom have sacked manager Ryan Mason.
Ryan Mason becomes the latest manager to be sacked in the Championship this season.
Pompey’s Championship rivals West Brom have called time on the former Spurs man’s stint in The Hawthorns hot seat after just seven months in charge.
The 34-year-old was handed his first full-time managerial gig by the Baggies in June but won just nine of his 26 league games, with Monday’s defeat to Leicester City bringing an end to his stay.
West Brom currently sit 18th in the standings, seven points above the relegation zone after a poor start to the season.
John Mousinho’s men, of course, picked up a point in a 1-1 draw against the Baggies in August and make the trip to Fratton Park for the return fixture on January 31.
West Brom release statement over Ryan Mason

The ex-Hull City midfielder’s final action with the Midlands outfit came on Monday evening, with the 2-1 defeat by the Foxes spelling the end of his tenure.
The loss continued his side’s poor run of form on the road, losing all of their previous 10 away games.
A statement released by West Brom read: ‘West Bromwich Albion have today parted company with men’s first team Head Coach Ryan Mason.
‘Assistant Head Coach Nigel Gibbs and First Team Coach/Head of Performance Sam Pooley have also departed The Hawthorns.
‘The club would like to place on record its thanks to Ryan, Nigel and Sam for their efforts and wishes all three the very best for the future.
‘First Team Coach James Morrison will oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis until a new staff is appointed.
‘The process of recruiting a new men’s first team Head Coach and staff is under way.’
