'One our best. Bland and average. Jury still out': Portsmouth verdict on transfer window after summer overhaul

Pompey recruited 12 new players during the summer transfer window.

The Fratton faithful have been discussing Pompey’s summer transfer window.

It was a hectic summer on the south coast as John Mousinho assembled his new-look Championship side, with 12 new players arriving through the doors.

The Blues also upped their spending and were estimated to have have splashed out around £11m on squad strengthening.

Meanwhile, Josh Knight, Hayden Matthews, Josef Bursik, Toby Steward, Makenzie Kirk and Jordan Williams all departed on loan, making the move to Reading, Bradford City, AFC Wimbledon, St Johnstone, Barnsley and Blackpool respectively.

Ibane Bowat made the drop to League One, completing a permanent switch to Huddersfield Town.

After a hectic transfer window, the Fratton faithful have differing views on the Blues’ activity after a frustrating start to the campaign.

Pompey have won just one of the opening four Championship matches season despite their new additions and currently sit 20th in the early-season standings.

Indeed, fans have been discussing the summer window at length on social media since Tuesday’s deadline.

Here’s the best of the reaction.

@ShaunCHill: Little to no Championship experience signed. How many of those players improve our starting 11? Would’ve signed fewer but better vs signing so many.

@pompeysdream: To be fair we look better just need our attackers scoring or at least shooting.

@GeorgeSlatcher: Looking at the amount of money spent, if I’m going to be honest, it’s a poor poor window for me.

@mark_smithy: That’s a great window.

@pfclowey: Think only time will tell, but it’s definitely one our best in the champ

@andrewdarkperry: 4 games in and you would think we were 10 points adrift at the bottom the way some fans are behaving. Jayden Meghoma looks decent and perhaps will unlock our stagnant left had side.

@pfcjamesx: On paper 6/10. Signed a striker, fixed our winger issues, spent much more money than previously, still very much lacking defensively and failed to replace Dozzell. So far 3/10 - majority of starters played for us in League One, squad hasn’t gelled at all, same issues again.

@HoundReasonable: Jury still out on most of them. Painful midfield.

@David_Winter123: 8 or 9 out of ten, want to stay positive been a great window just think we should've kept Bowat. Then it's 9.4.

@Boxy200: Bland and average, that’s 40 + players signed in 3 seasons and how many are honestly going to be 1st team regulars? The recruitment has been horrendous at this level at best.

@PompeyDinlo: Could’ve spent the same money on half the players and probably have been better off.

@Sven8515106864: We've improved across our front line by the jury is very much out on our midfield and defence. At least we got another LB in, but we look to have taken a hell of a gamble by sticking with what we have at CB.

@jamespfc69: Early days but so far 6/10.

@GibMonkeyPompey: Time will tell … but I fear another very tough relegation battle ahead.

@84Knight: £11m is an improvement, but let’s be honest it’s still way behind most teams in the league.

@BlueArmyAlex: £11 million at least helps to try and make up for the awful budgets given in the last 2 years. It’s now up to Mousinho to bed the signings in and get them firing. If it doesn’t happen over the next month it’ll be time to look elsewhere.
