Update emerges on Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers’ reported pursuit of highly-rated Liverpool defender
Pompey have been linked with a move for highly-rated Liverpool defender Luke Chambers.
Liverpool won’t allow reported Pompey target Luke Chambers to depart Anfield until the final stages of the transfer window.
Pompey face competition for his signature from Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers and QPR, who also have the England youth international on their radar.

Update on Pompey’s reported pursuit of Liverpool left-back
However, an update from transfer guru Alan Nixon has suggested the Reds are looking to hold on to Chambers for the time being due to ongoing injury issues in Andoni Iraola’s backline and lack of defensive arrivals this summer.
The report states a decision over his future has been pushed back by Liverpool, who are now likely to wait until the window’s climax before giving the defender the green light to complete a temporary exit.
Should the Premier League side sanction a departure, a loan move will be in the offing, with Pompey among the Championship clubs firmly interested.
There is still no timeframe over a return for Ogilvie, who underwent knee surgery in July, with Mousinho recently admitting the long-serving 30-year-old is still in some pain.
Farrell will also miss the opening weeks of the campaign after suffering a recurrence of his groin issue during pre-season, with his setback also hampering a potential exit in the window.
This has forced right-back Zak Swanson to once again answer the head coach’s SOS at left-back, which saw him start against West Ham and QPR.
Following their Championship opening-day defeat to the Hoops, Mousinho was hopeful of securing one new arrival before this weekend’s trip to Lincoln City.
That new addition will unlikely be Chambers, though, with the defender now expected to remain at Liverpool until the window’s climax before a decision over his future is made.
Who is reported Pompey target Luke Chambers?

Chambers rose through the ranks at Anfield, impressing at youth level before making his first-team debut in a Carabao Cup triumph over Leicester City in August 2023.
The highly-rated left-back has gone on to amass three further senior outings for the Reds, of which all came in the Europa League during the 2023-24 campaign.
Chambers impressed at Championship level at The Valley, amassing 18 appearances as Nathan Jones’ men beat the drop to League One.
Following his return to Merseyside in the summer, the Anfield youth product has been an ever-present for Iraola during Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the United States, featuring in five of their six friendlies.
Now, Chambers is reportedly on the radar of the football operations at Fratton Park as the Blues eye late-window additions.
