'Never fall in love with a loan player, too late': Portsmouth loanee making waves at new home

Pompey loanee Josef Bursik is enjoying an outstanding start to life in League One with AFC Wimbledon.

And Wombles supporters have taken to social media to share delight at landing the keeper on a season-long loan at Fratton Park.

The Blues, of course, sanctioned an exit for the keeper just 12 months into his two-year deal after falling down John Mousinho’s pecking order following the summer signing of Daniel Bielica.

Bursik completed a temporary return to Plough Lane, the place he started his career, on deadline day and has since started the following two League One matches since his late-window move.

It’s been a brilliant start to his AFC Wimbledon career, keeping clean sheets in wins over Bromley and Doncaster Rovers

But it was his display against Donny on Saturday which caught the eye, with the England youth international collecting nine saves as Jonnie Jackson’s side secured a crucial 1-0 victory.

And his showing on his Plough Lane return was highlighted by supporters, who have been impressed with the Pompey loanee’s impressive start to life in south London.

Here’s the best of the reaction from Wombles fans on X.

Exciting AFC Wimbledon verdict on impressive Pompey loanee

@hereforthehate1: This guy saved us today. Well deserved man of the match.

@SparkyTheWomble: Bursik able to make a wonderful save thanks to Sasu falling over.

@HaydontheWomble: Congratulations to Joe Bursik on man of the match, 2 games 2 clean sheets cracking interview with Ivor (for the height ratio alone) lovely to hear him say how it feels like he has come back home.

@WDownunder: Outstanding homecoming for Joe Bursik, his second clean sheet, several fine saves behind a jittery defence.

@BrooklynDon6: Never fall in love with a loan player...too late

@LynnTW: What a goalkeeper. Can we keep him please?!

@alexwoody348: Bursik is going to be huge but I can already see the “Leicester city and several other high end League One clubs are interested in Portsmouth goalkeeper Joe Bursik, currently on loan at Wimbledon”.

@AFCWHearn: Could’ve lost 5-1 but Joe Bursik is the best keeper in L1.

@reesefletcher_: Just wanted to talk about Joe Bursik. He didn't have much to do but I thought he was very professional in the way he played. His passing was very smart and when he could've easily gone long at times he picked out a pass which none of us saw. Big player for us.

@jamiecookeAFC: He is gonna win us many games, what a keeper he is.

@DonsOnTour: Bursik an absolute immense loan for us.

Andygoo63687719: Joe Bursik best keeper in League One by a mile.
