Portsmouth boss John Mousinho provides fresh Terry Devlin transfer update after £5m Wrexham decision

John Mousinho with an intriguing update over Terry Devlin’s Pompey future this summer.

John Mousinho is ‘pretty confident’ Terry Devlin will remain at Fratton Park beyond the summer transfer window.

And the head coach has reiterated Pompey have yet to receive any interest or bids for the talented right-back ahead of the new campaign.

Devlin earned a clean sweep in the Blues’ end-of-season awards after solidifying himself at right-back, which saw him total 40 appearances and net five goals in all competitions.

Interest in the 22-year-old from higher up the footballing pyramid was expected by Pompey heading into the window after his stock and value rapidly soared after his excellent emergence.

Wrexham had a £2m bid for Devlin’s services knocked back in January and were expected to return with a fresh pursuit this summer, but have since moved on and subsequently signed Crystal Palace’s Danny Imray in a £5m deal last week.

It would, of course, take a substantial figure for Pompey to cash in on the powerful operator, with two years still to run on his current terms.

And in a new update over the full-back’s future, the head coach has reiterated Pompey are yet to receive any enquiries from elsewhere.

And Mousinho remains ‘confident’ his side can retain Devlin’s services heading into the new season.

He told BBC Radio Solent: ‘I’m pretty confident at the moment that we are going to keep Terry’s services.

‘You never know what’s going to pop up but we haven’t had any concrete interest and we haven’t had a bid.

‘So at the minute we’re in a really good position to keep him.’

What has been previously said about Terry Devlin’s future?

Earlier this summer, Pompey were anticipating interest in Devlin after his brilliant Championship emergence last term.

He told The News in July: ‘Ultimately, there’s a natural by-product of players being very well thought off and developing at an incredible pace - and we have been consistent in our thought process.

‘The person who deserves the most credit for Terry's development is Terry. He has got himself into a really good spot and, although nothing has come yet, I don’t think anyone would be surprised if there was interest.

‘But, as a player under contract, it’s going to have to hit a level that feels acceptable to the club. Given Terry’s contract position and having security on that, there is no demand or desire to sell.

‘However, if something comes up that is a fee which is going to massively benefit the future of the football club, then it’s something which will be considered - but there is no pressure to sell. There have been no offers or enquiries as things stand.

‘It’s the model in any football club. If a player comes in and there is a substantial return on profit after a significant impact on the team, I don’t think many clubs will be able to move away from that.

‘Even the top end, it’s mirrored in terms of you have players who have signed for £30-40m at various clubs and then end up going for over £80m in future transfers. That model is always going to be prevalent in the pyramid.’
