Pompey begin the new Championship campaign on home soil this weekend as they host QPR.
The Blues lifted the curtain on the new season with a defeat to West Ham in the first round of the Carabao Cup last Saturday, with attention now turning to league matters.
There was plenty to be encouraged about at the London Stadium, though, with John Mousinho’s men going toe-to-toe with the Championship promotion favourites for large parts of the contest.
It was a makeshift Pompey side in east London with several key players missing through injury, forcing the head coach to name three players on the bench, while youngsters Luke Brooke-Smith and Eoin Kenny were called upon.
And there was a further blow, with Thomas Waddingham coming the latest addition in the treatment room after sustaining a potential serious setback soon after his second-half introduction.
Nonetheless, Mousinho promised as many as three new arrivals before QPR as transfer activity ramps up.
One of those have already been confirmed, with the Blues announcing the long-awaited capture of Abu Kamara on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, Chelsea starlet Ryan Kavuma-McQueen and Antalyaspor midfielder Jesper Ceesay are both set to arrive in the comings days, with their respective deals expected to be completed before Saturday’s league opener.
With the duo set to finalise their respective switches and join Kamara through the doors this week, we’ve taken a look at how Mousinho’s side could be transformed for their curtain raiser against QPR this weekend.
Here’s how Pompey could shape-up.

10. CAM: Adrian Segecic
Segecic started the new campaign where he left off. A fabulous strike to open his account for the new season on Saturday, with Kamara's addition likely to see the attacker return to his more natural number 10 role. | Chris Foxwell/ProSportsImages

11. LW: Luke Brooke-Smith
The 18-year-old has emerged as a genuine contender for a starting role in Saturday's season opener against QPR. Although Mousinho made it clear he's turned to the winger earlier than expected, the head coach was delighted with his impact at the London Stadium. 12. ST: Colby Bishop
With Milovanovic still building up his fitness, Bishop is expected to lead the line heading into the new campaign. The Magic Man will be looking to bounce back from his goalscoring difficulties last term, which saw him net four times in all competitions. | Chris Foxwell/ProSportsImages
