Pompey have made an impressive start to the new Championship season and currently sit two points outside of the play-offs ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley.
Attention is already turning to the January window for John Mousinho, who has admitted plans for the upcoming market are expected to ramp up in the next 2-3 weeks at Fratton Park.
But if Mousinho is looking to strengthen, space will be created in his squad, with his ranks currently full, with Mark Kosznovszky, Harvey Blair, Josh Murphy and Connor Ogilvie left out of the 25-man EFL side.
We’ve identified nine players who could depart Fratton Park for all different reasons in January as transfer talk begins to ramp up.

2. Hayden Matthews
The Aussie is having a disastrous loan stay with League One high-flyers Bradford City, where he's yet to register a league outing so far. In fact, the centre-back has not been named in a League One matchday squad to date, with his sole outings coming in the EFL Trophy. Pompey do have a recall clause in his season-long agreement and could trigger that option and send him elsewhere to gain regular game time. | Jason Brown

3. Mark Kosznovszky
Mousinho has admitted this week he views the Hungarian as part of his plans after his return from a long-term knee injury. The midfielder, who has been sidelined with a knee injury since December 2025, is expected to complete his comeback between December and January. But despite significant absence, the head coach is not looking to send Kosznovszky out on loan in January. It remains to be seen how the Blues' plans could change before the window. | ProSportsImages

4. John Swift
Prior to his knee injury, which will keep him out for six weeks, Swift had struggled for minutes in the opening weeks of the season. A cameo appearance off the bench against Bristol City represents the midfielder's sole Championship outing this term and has subsequently been an unused substitute five times. The 31-year-old could be someone the Blues look to move on in January as he heads into the final six months of his two-year Fratton Park deal. | Jason Brown
