Wrexham agree £7m Sheffield United deal as transfer attention turns away from Portsmouth's Adrian Segečić

Adrian Segečić has an interest from Wrexham and Birmingham City.

Wrexham have turned their attention away from Adrian Segečić in their pursuit of an attacking midfielder.

The Red Dragons have reportedly agreed a seven-figure deal with Sheffield United for forward Callum O’Hare.

Sky Sports have revealed Phil Parkinson’s side have had a £7m bid accepted by the Blades for the 28-year-old who will head to north Wales today to complete a medical.

It is believed the attacker will then finalise contract details before sealing the permanent switch.

Wrexham turn transfer attention away from Pompey’s Segečić

News of O’Hare’s imminent arrival likely spells the end of Wrexham’s late-window interest in Segečić, who is expected to remain at Fratton Park beyond Tuesday evening’s deadline.

The 22-year-old was reportedly on the Red Dragons’ short list if they couldn’t reach a deal for the Sheffield United man.

Transfer guru Alan Nixon claimed the Pompey attacker was being eyed by the big-spending Welsh outfit along with Bristol City’s Scott Twine and Crystal Palace’s Romain Esse.

The News understands Segečić is also on the radar of Birmingham City, who are looking for late additions to their front-line, as well as a sizable European outfit.

He is keen to stay on these shores however, and is perfectly happy to remain at Fratton Park, with a valuation of around £5m on the player.

The 24-year-old is finalising a season-long loan deal in the West Midlands, with the agreement expected to hold a permanent option.

John Mousinho provides update on Adrian Segečić

The head coach told The News: ‘Nothing has progressed with Segs.

‘Something may change between now and tomorrow night, but I fully expect him to be available for Derby.

‘I’m relaxed, because we’re at this stage without any bids coming in.

‘The only danger is if something comes in late and we think it may be decent enough to accept, Segs wants to pursue that and we haven’t had time to replace him. We have to be wary of when that cut-off point will land.

‘We can probably react (tomorrow), but there’s a lot of different considerations.

‘If you’re looking at a UK-based transfer or loan (to replace Segečić) it’s straightforward, but if we have eyes on a player from across the continent we really need to get the ball rolling today.

‘I don’t think it’s going to happen.

‘If there was a club preparing a bid I think they would’ve at least been in touch with us to sound it out, because the later you leave it we will just say it’s not going to happen.

‘Segs has been fine and is still hungry goals, so as long as he’s in the building he will be available for selection.’
