Portsmouth season hits low at as supporter patience snaps amid shameful QPR embarrassment

Pompey’s season plumbed new depths as they suffered a shameful 6-1 thrashing at QPR.

Supporter patience snapped as the Blues meekly rolled over with a pitiful showing at Loftus Road.

Chants of ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt’ and ‘we’re going down with the Wednesday’ rang out, as fans quite rightly vented their anger at their team. Anti-Eisner songs could also be heard from the away end.

Two goals apiece from Paul Smyth and Rayan Kolli did the damage, with John Swift pulling one back for Mousinho’s men before the break.

Then Richard Kone’s late double took the scoreline to embarrassing levels, on a day which goes down as a new low in John Mousinho’s managerial tenure.

Pompey somehow remain outside of the bottom three going into the international break, but major questions are being asked over their survival credentials after a sixth game without a win.

Three goals shipped in 17 minutes told the story of a shocking first half from Pompey.

John Swift gifted possession to Richard Kone in the build-up to Paul Smyth’s first in the seventh minute, with the winger’s 20-yarder going in via a deflection off Connor Ogilvie.

It got worse in the 24th minute as Rayan Kolli fired through Conor Shaughnessy from 30 yards, with the ball squeezing between Nico Schmid’s dive and the post.

It turned ugly in the away end as patience snapped in the 29th minute, after Paul Smyth charged through the middle and slotted his second of the match beyond Schmid.

Pompey gave themselves a lifeline seven minutes before the break when Millenic Alli’s cross dropped to Swift 25 yards out, with the midfielder firing in off the post.

Terry Devlin then nearly pulled the Blues right back into it just before the break, when his 30 yarder nearly caught Joe Walsh out but the ball squirmed over the bar.

Colby Bishop replaced the ineffective Adrian Segecic at the interval, as Pompey sought a way back into the match.

But it got worse for the Blues in the 55th minute when Kolli left Shaughnessy for dead, blazing an angled drive beyond Schmid from inside the box.

From there it was a procession, with Pompey pushing for openings without creating much in the way of meaningful chances.

Then QPR turned the screw late on as Kone fired home from the spot, after Esquerdinha earned a soft penalty from a Bishop challenge.

The striker added a sixth after driving straight through the middle and blasting home, to crown a bleak, bleak day in the capital.
