The permutations with Portsmouth boss eyed by Championship club on managerial merry-go-round

Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City, Burnley and Watford are all on the look for new bosses - with other Championship clubs potentially following suit this summer.

He holds the position as one of the Championship’s longest-serving managers.

But a John Mousinho exit from Fratton Park after three-and-a-half years could well put Pompey on a managerial merry-go-round, which is about to accelerate.

Championship clubs want Mousinho - with movement expected around division

And they could be followed by other outfits, with those in other hot-seats either under pressure or being touted for exits - some by other rivals in the same division.

That is clearly the case with Bristol City and Mousinho, while the Robins are known to have activated clauses in a number of other contracts to allow them to speak to those on their shortlist.

One of those was Lincoln City boss Michael Skubala, though the Imps man is believed to be happy at the League One champions and set to remain at Sincil Bank.

Blackburn Rovers, Burnley and Watford are the other outfits explicitly looking for new figures at the helm at present.

The other promoted League One side, Cardiff City, are seeing their head coach touted for the position with Brian Barry-Murphy linked with Burnley.

The News reported on Saturday an unnamed Championship club are eyeing John Mousinho, with the team in question currently having a boss at the helm.

Derby County head coach John Eustace is someone who’s been linked with the Clarets as his stock rises, with a move to Turf Moor opening a desirable Championship vacancy.

Meanwhile, QPR boss, Julien Stephan has been touted for a move back to his native France this summer after an unspectacular campaign at Loftus Road.

Mark Robins is currently in place at Stoke City, but finds himself under pressure at the bet365 Stadium after the club finished 17th - the club’s eight successive bottom-half Championship finish.

After Michael O’Neill successfully kept Blackburn Rovers in the division, the Northern Ireland boss has turned down the chance of a permanent stay at Ewood Park.

That leaves a vacancy to be filled, but perhaps not one which will necessarily appeal to those in demand for Championship positions. Former West Ham boss Slaven Bilic and Plymouth’s Tom Cleverley are two of those in the frame, according to reports.

Cleverley’s former employers, Watford, are regularly on the lookout for a new boss - and are once again in that position after sacking Ed Still at the start of the month.Russell Martin - who has featured among the names touted for Bristol City - is reportedly the man brave enough to take on the role of Still’s successor at Vicarage Road.

So now we wait for the first managerial domino to fall - and then set off a chain of events to stretch around the second tier.
