It was a dreadful start to 2026 for Pompey, who fell to a 5-0 defeat to Bristol City.
Goals from Adam Randell, Anis Mehmeti, Scott Twine and a double from Sinclair Armstrong brought the Blues back down to earth after Monday’s victory over Charlton Athletic.

9. Zak Swanson - 2
(Replaced by Jordan Williams on 62 minutes) Swanson struggled to contain Ross McCrorie on the right-wing for City. Recovered well a couple of times but was fairly quiet at wing-back. | Graham Hunt/ProSportsImages
10. Adrian Segecic - 2
Completely silenced by the Robins backline, who dominated in the air, while limiting the forward to any real touches on the ball. | Graham Hunt/ProSportsImages
11. John Swift - 3
Swift returned to the starting line-up for the Blues and the limited danger Pompey did cause Bristol City did come from Swift. The midfielder’s set-pieces were put into good areas, with Kirk having a chance to score. | Graham Hunt/ProSportsImages
12. Makenzie Kirk - 2
(Replaced by Tayo Singerr on 74 minutes) Didn’t make any real impact on the game. Completely nullified by the powerful Zak Vyner, who was able to stop Kirk producing any clear-cut opportunities on the ball. Should’ve scored but headed into Max O’Leary’s hands from four-yards out. | Graham Hunt/ProSportsImages
