It was a dreadful start to 2026 for Pompey, who fell to a 5-0 defeat to Bristol City.
Goals from Adam Randell, Anis Mehmeti, Scott Twine and a double from Sinclair Armstrong brought the Blues back down to earth after Monday’s victory over Charlton Athletic.

2. Nicolas Schmid - 2
Horrendous error that led to Bristol City’s second goal. The Austrian attempted to play out of the back but his pass into midfield was straight at Mehmeti, who combined well with Emil Riis to double the Robins’ second. The keeper was then at the heart of a comedy of errors by the Blues, with his ball out to Bowat the cause of the Robins’ fourth. | Graham Hunt/ProSportsImages
3. Regan Poole - 3
A really sloppy start, with miss-placed passes from Pompey’s backline. Looked much stronger in the second half after moving to right-back. | Graham Hunt/ProSportsImages
4. Conor Shaughnessy - 3
(Replaced by Hayden Matthews on 62 minutes) Brilliant to see him back in the Blues’ starting line-up for the first time since September. However, it’s not a return the Irishman will want to remember after a disappointing display at Ashton Gate. The centre-back was poor when playing out from the back and incredibly sloppy in possession. | Graham Hunt/ProSportsImages
