Spotted! DR Congo international dons Portsmouth shirt in unlikely move from Oxford United man

The Oxford United man wearing a Pompey shirt has raised questions over what’s going on with the former Bolton Wanderers and Luton Town defender.

It prompted a double take from eagle-eyed online observers.

Perhaps there wasn’t anything particularly unusual about the DR Congo international going through his paces in a gym workout, as players get set to return for pre-season training.

The fact that Peter Kioso was doing it wearing a Pompey shirt did raise a few eyebrows, however.

That undeniably was the case as the Oxford United defender did an intense workout, which surfaced online yesterday.

Maybe doing it in the shirt of the team who survived in the Championship at the U’s expense wasn’t necessarily advisable, but Kioso can perhaps be given some leeway given he spent last term out on loan with Peterborough United.

The obvious question is what on earth is the Ireland-born man doing in a Pompey shirt in the first place?

It doesn’t look like there’s anything particularly meaningful to the move, however, as the Fratton Faithful look for clues on the players who will be arriving at PO4 this summer.

Things start to become a little clearer as the clip posted on Instagram by BK Training goes on, with Kioso leaping onto a box.

Wearing the 2024-25 home Pompey shirt, the 26-year-old turns to reveal the number 18 with the name Bramall emblazoned across the back of the shirt.

Cohen Bramall, of course, spent the second half of that campaign at Fratton Park, making a positive impression across 12 appearances to help John Mousinho’s side remain in the Championship.

The left-back would have been acquainted with Kioso after spending with three years at Rotherham United, with the former having two years at the New York Stadium before joining Oxford in 2024.

It’s unclear what lies ahead for Kioso next term, though he remains contracted at the Kassam Stadium and could face his pal, who moved on to Luton Town this term.

In a slightly more orthodox Instagram post, Pompey defender Ibane Bowat is looking sharp, as he gets set to join his team-mates back at the club’s Hilsea training base next week.

Bowat is seen being put through his paces in a training session, which features a number of technical ballwork drills.

The centre-back gets in some heading, passing and shooting practice in the post accompanied by a couple of flame emojis.

Team-mates Josh Murphy, Nicolas Schmid and former Fratton striker are among those who gave the video their seal of approval.

Meanwhile, Blues favourite Ebou Adams posted the succinct reply: ‘Looking good.’
