The Blues’ partnership with Nike will extend into a ninth season with Just Sport remaining as retail partner, as chief executive Andy Cullen reported ‘increased’ merchandising revenues.

Pompey are now a little over five weeks from seeing their latest home shirt offering landing on shelves, in one of the club’s landmark summer dates.

Cullen said: ‘We’re in a good place.

‘We’ve got ongoing contracts with our key sponsors and our key technical suppliers Nike and Just Sport, in terms of our retail operation. It’s a commitment beyond this season with Nike.

‘We will have the home kit on sale in mid-summer, that will be the beginning of July.

‘That’s when we’ve go the home kit release pencilled in for - that’s always a big moment in the summer calendar. The fixtures is the first big date and then the home kit coming out.

‘We’re in a good position where we’ve secured our main sponsors for next season and we’re very grateful for their ongoing support, because they continue to invest significant sums of money.

‘Retail-wise we continue to see our merchandise revenues increase. We have someone who operates the retail operation for us and we’re in a good position in terms of the deal.

‘We’ve not got to worry about stock levels too much, because someone takes care of the day-to-day operation for us and are successful in the revenue they generate for us.’

The university taking their shirt partnership with Pompey into a ninth season will see them equal the same period Jobsite spent in that position, with their agreement running for 2009-10 until 2017-18.

Cullen stated the deal stands up against other Championship shirt sponsorship equivalents.

He added: ‘There continues to be a long-term commitment from the university and they invest competitively in the football club compared to other front-of-shirt sponsorships.

‘There is that view “it’s the university”, but universities are big businesses now and we can see how much the university has grown and how much investment they put into Portsmouth in all sorts of different ways.

‘They see the football club as part of that investment strategy, we’re lucky to have them.

‘I think it’s instantly preferable to having a gambling company on your shirts. We believe quite strongly in being a major part of the community, the university are a big player in the community with the Royal Navy.

‘We’re able to work with them to inspire and motivate people to consider higher education.

‘Portsmouth has low educational aspirations in terms of people continuing their educations, so we offer scholarships as part of our commitments to the contracts for young people who don’t have the opportunity to go to universities from low-income families who live in the area.

‘We’re proud to play a part in raising educational aspirations, the same with getting into schools with players and the university to play our part in inspiring young people in Portsmouth.’
