‘Rolls Royce. No brainer. Massive influence’: Clear Portsmouth verdict over new deal for huge Fratton favourite

Marlon Pack has amassed 151 outings for Pompey following his 2022 arrival, but is out of contract this summer.

Pompey have been told to hand Marlon Pack a new contract this summer.

That’s the unanimous view of the Fratton faithful on social media, who have lauded the 35-year-old’s contributions this season.

The midfielder’s current terms are set to expire at the end of the current campaign, although John Mousinho has signalled his intent at tying the Buckland lad down to a fresh deal.

Following Pack’s arrival under Danny Cowley in 2022, the ex-Bristol City man has gone on to amass 151 outings and also lead his boyhood club to the League One title in 2024.

And his brilliant work, coupled with his immense leadership skills, haven’t gone unnoticed by the Fratton faithful, who are in full belief the academy graduate should be rewarded with fresh terms this summer.

When we put the question, Should Pompey offer 35-year-old Marlon Pack a new deal when his current contract comes to a close in the summer? on social media, the response from supporters was clear.

Here’s the best of the reaction from Facebook...

Unanimous Pompey verdict over future of huge favourite

Ryan Boare: Rolls Royce and class act on and off the field! No brainer!!

Chris Walker: He has absolutely earned it. I thought he'd be a bit part player but he's been vital to the last 3 months. Get him involved in the coaching setup as well as playing next season... He'd be amazing as an overage player in the u21s (if we could get it setup eventually) - what Tom Huddlestone did for Man U a few years back.

Jason Cromey: Pack has always been decent at Pompey, maybe just not used as the right moments is all, definitely keep him and give him a new contract, he'd happily take it anyway.

Keith Mountifield: Pack’s value is in his leadership as well as his footballing. Definitely agree with the player coach trajectory.

Graham O'Neil: Yes. He’s been fantastic in recent games, looks fitter than at any point in the last three years and has earned it. One year and then segue into coaching…

Graeme Jefferson: I thought he was pretty much done for last season but feel that he's been outstanding this season.

Andy Stubbs: Yes. Having someone from the city in that dressing room on the low budget we are operating off is key to out-perform where we finish in the league, even if he isn't a starter week in week out.

Adrian Wardle: 100% yes... Big, big influence when Dozzell & Adams have been out (& before Adams arrived). Even made an impact as a centre half over last 2 seasons. Definitely deserves a contract purely as a player and to integrate him into staff during next couple of seasons makes huge sense.

Gary Haines: Offer him a year extension see how he goes next season as he has definitely earned it based on this season.

Robin Lipsham: Yes. 1 year with option of a second if it suits. No brainer an asset just to be about the new and younger signings.

Clive Edmonds: Definitely. If he has lost pace then play him where he does not have to run to much i.e. deep midfielder in centre and let him pass the ball around. Just need to use him intelligently.

Paul Francis Sumner: Yes - he is Pompey and when his playing career is over he should get an offer to keep him here.

Lee Macca McAvery: 100% even if he’s on the bench massive influence in the dressing room.

Michael Shaw: Definitely, weirdly far better this season than he was last, although not flirting with 2 positions may have helped. He's Portsmouth through and through and knows what this club means. Even if Mousinho sees him as mainly a back up player, still worth keeping.

Neil Batterham-shelton: He's had fewer injuries than most of the squad and puts himself on the line for the club he might not have the legs for a full season but I'd give it a punt.
