‘You’ll soon see’: Liverpool capture’s big Portsmouth vow as return accelerates
Harvey Blair is fit again and the Anfield capture has an exciting message for the Fratton Faithful, after showing Championship promise at the end of last season.
Harvey Blair is adamant Fratton Faithful will soon see the true limit of his Pompey potential.
And the Liverpool arrival promised supporters there’s still a lot more to come from him, after the exciting glimpse of his talent at the end of last season.
Liverpool signing Harvey Blair: ‘You’ll soon see what I can do’
Blair revealed he’s been tasked with taking the clear ability he’s been showing on the training ground into the Championship by John Mousinho.
And the winger believes he perfectly capable of delivering on that challenge, as he settles into his second season at Fratton Park.
Blair made his second appearance of the season on Saturday, as he continued his return from the hamstring injury suffered on the final day of last term against Hull City. It’s been two energetic cameos for the 22-year-old, following on from some promising displays at the end of the last campaign as Championship survival was secured.
Blair’s efforts impressed back then, but the £300,000 capture is clear what he showed is a long from being the limit of what he can achieve. Now the winger has a steely determination to prove what he can do for Pompey in the second tier.
Blair said: ‘It’s starting to go well for me, but I know there’s so much to come from me.
‘The manager sees what I can do in training every day, I show him there what I’m capable of. We’ve had multiple talks about my future and he knows what I’m capable of - that’s why he has so much trust in me.
‘I think he literally wants me to take that to the pitch. Towards the end of last season I was showing glimpses of what I’m capable of, but I know for a fact that what I showed last season is nowhere near the limit of what I can do.
‘It’s one of those ones where I just feel I need to get my rhythm and take it from there - you’ll soon be able to see what I can do.’
Mousinho has spoken publicly of how he’s treating Blair’s maiden season at Pompey akin to the player’s first loan move, with that usually proving an up-and-down education for young players.
But with that development now in the bag, the Blues head coach is clear potential has to be fulfilled for the Huddersfield-born player to kick on at Fratton Park. Blair explained how a move from the Premier League champions to Pompey has been a step up for him in many ways, with plenty of challenges to overcome.
Harvey Blair: ‘I feel I can help the team a lot’
He added: ‘I played for Liverpool’s first team, one game, and I trained with Liverpool’s first team near enough every day. But it’s not the same as being at a whole new club, moving down here on my own with no family and everything is new to me. So it’s been about finding my feet.
‘Last season was really about getting used to the league, now this season needs to be a very good season for me, I feel like I can kick on and help the team a lot. I just need a rhythm of games and once I get a rhythm of games I think people will see the real me.
‘I just need to keep going, keep getting my fitness from these little cameos and then hopefully push for a start in the near future.’
