John Mousinho’s men fell to a 3-1 reverse against the Hoops at Fratton Park, despite Terry Devlin firing the Blues ahead after 15 minutes.

Julien Stephan’s side responded in quick succession before the break, however, with an Ilias Chair double separated by a Koki Saito effort to turn the game on its head.

Pompey were unable to respond in the second half and subsequently fell to their first opening-day defeat since August 2019.

It’s still very much early days, though, with two weeks still remaining in the transfer window for Mousinho to assemble his completed squad.
