The wait for incomings continues at Fratton Park, with Pompey expected to ramp up their business ahead of the trip to Sheffield Wednesday next week.
It’s set to be busy on the south coast as John Mousinho looks to improve his squad ahead of the hugely-important second half of the season.
Following Mark Kosznovszky’s season-ending knee injury, Pompey have been left with Marlon Pack, Andre Dozzell, John Swift and Luke Le Roux as their options in the middle of the park.
With potentially two new faces needed in the engine room - a holding midfielder as well as a versatile number eight - we’ve scoured the markets to find 14 potential midfielders who could be realistic options for the Blues in January.

2. Paris Maghoma - Brentford
Maghoma is a box-to-box midfielder, who has a brilliant record in front of goal at youth level and in League One. Mousinho’s preference in the middle of the park is allowing a more versatile operator the freedom to advance forward, while another remains more-defensive minded. With that in mind, the 24-year-old could be an option to fill that number eight role in Mark Kosznovszky’s absence. Maghoma hasn’t had a look in for the Bees at first-team level this term under new boss Keith Andrews, despite featuring eight times in the Premier League last season. 3. George Earthy - West Ham
The West Ham talent impressed while on loan at Bristol City last term, registering 37 appearances in the Championship - along with three goals. Although the England youth international is more of an advanced midfielder, he can thrive in the number eight role, proving a threat in both boxes. He remained at the London Stadium for the first half of the season, which has seen him thrive in the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy for the Hammers’ youth side. 4. Andrew Moran - Brighton
Moran was one of the first names to be linked with a move to PO4 in January, with reports suggesting the Blues had made enquiries over the Brighton man. The Irishman has plenty of Championship experience, having prospered with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City. The 22-year-old had spent the first of the campaign on loan with MLS outfit LAFC before returning to the Amex Stadium.
