Portsmouth loanee and former Stoke City and Barnsley favourite available as free transfer after retained list published

The January Pompey arrival will be a free agent this summer after the League One side released their retained list - with fellow loanee contracted next season.

Jacob Brown will be available to sign as a free transfer this summer after being released.

The Pompey loanee has been told he has no future at Luton Town, as the League One side published their retained list.

But fellow Blues temporary signing, Millenic Alli, remains contracted with the Hatters for the 2026-27 season after his stint at PO4.

Luton confirmed their squad details last night, after finishing seventh in League One this season - outside of the play-offs by a single point.

And Brown will be moving on from Kenilworth Road after three years there, which included a campaign in the Premier League following his high-profile capture from Stoke City.

The 28-year-old is joined as a Luton Town free agent by Cohen Bramall, who made a positive contribution to Championship survival at Fratton Park last term.

Bramall made 12 appearances for John Mousinho’s side on the way to second-tier safety over the second half of last term.

The 30-year-old’s form there was enough to earn a deal with Luton, where he got 35 outings under his belt this season - contributing three goals and two assists.

Brown made 60 appearances in his time with Luton scoring seven goals, but also dealt with major ankle and knee injuries in his time at the club.

He was bound for former club Barnsley at the end of the January window, before Pompey came in late to land the attacker and bolster their front line.

Brown had a good availability record at Fratton Park, making five starts and gaining 10 outings off the bench - with his single goal coming in the 2-1 loss to Swansea City in March.

Alli is one of 16 players who remain under contract at Luton, with the Republic of Ireland international returning to his parent club after his January loan arrival at PO4.

The £1.5m capture from Exeter City in January of last year, but has an uncertain Luton future after falling out of favour under boss Jack Wilshere this season.

Alli made 21 appearances for Pompey after hitting the ground running at Fratton Park, but his form did dip as the 26-year-old was used extensively by Mousinho.

The Blues boss said at the end of February he would like to make Alli’s signing permanent this summer, when speaking to The News.

Mousinho said: That (signing Alli permanently) is obviously out of our hands, because he’s going to be a Luton player again in the summer.

‘From my perspective, if I can speak to Milli in the summer and persuade him to maybe extend his stay here I think everyone could see that as being beneficial.’

Pompey have yet to announce their retained list, but few surprises are expected. Andre Dozzell’s departure for MLS side DC United as a free agent has been confirmed, with Marlon Pack’s stay at Fratton Park for a fifth season sealed on a new 12-month agreement.
