Time running out for Portsmouth’s re-arranged fixture with Ipswich amid Southampton and Norwich FA Cup involvement
Pompey’s Championship contest against Ipswich Town has been twice postponed due to the pitch at Fratton Park.
Time is running out to slot Pompey’s re-arranged fixture with Ipswich Town in their Championship calendar.
The contest has been twice postponed over the past two months due to the pitch at Fratton Park, with time left in the season quickly ticking down
It was the first time in 13 years that a game at PO4 had fallen foul to the weather - and the first since February 2012 which was affected by freezing temperatures.
To make matters worse, the re-arranged contest with the Tractor Boys was postponed yet again just a month later, this time due to waterlogging after persistent rainfall, which battered the English coast.
Two dates remain in Pompey calendar for Ipswich game
There are now just two slots available in the final seven weeks of the season for the fixture to be played, while the upcoming international break, Easter schedule and FA Cup involvement causing issues.
Following Southampton’s’ triumph over Fulham on Sunday, their advancement to the quarter-final, which takes place over the Easter weekend, now means their Good Friday clash against Ipswich will need to be rescheduled.
However, Pompey’s trip to Carrow Road on April 3 will remain on the calendar because of Norwich City’s exit to Leeds United over the weekend.
Should the Cannaries have advanced in the competition, The Tractor Boys’ trip to the south coast could’ve been moved to Good Friday.
This means Tuesday, April 14 and Tuesday, April 28 now represent the only two dates available in the diary for the Blues’ to welcome Kieran McKenna’s promotion-chasing side.
