John Mousinho provides key injury update over Portsmouth trio ahead of season finale against Birmingham City

Pompey round off their Championship campaign against Birmingham City at Fratton Park this weekend.

John Mousinho has ruled injured trio Terry Devlin, Keshi Anderson and Gustavo Caballero out of Saturday’s season finale against Birmingham City.

And the head coach has explained his selection process ahead of the final-day showdown as the Blues look to end the campaign in style.

The curtain comes down on Pompey’s second-successive season back in the Championship this weekend, with Chris Davies’ 10th-placed outfit making the trip to the south coast.

Mousinho will, though, be without Player of the Season Devlin as he continues to sit out with a hamstring problem.

It remains to be seen whether the hugely-impressive right-back has played his final game at PO4 having missed the previous two matches after sustaining the set-back a fortnight ago against Leicester City.

Anderson, meanwhile, also sustained a hamstring injury in the opening stages against the Foxes, with the head coach initially ruling the January arrival out of the remaining weeks.

Caballero will be another to miss the season finale at Fratton this Saturday after picking up a groin issue against Middlesbrough earlier this month.

Pompey boss provides injury update ahead of Birmingham

In the meantime, though, Mousinho has provided a final injury update of the campaign - and made it clear the trio will miss the final-day contest.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, he said: ‘So Terry (Devlin), we’re looking at a return in about four weeks.

‘Keshi (Anderson) has been back out on the grass and is a lot lighter but he won’t be available for the weekend.

‘He would’ve been one of the ones we pushed if we needed him, but we don’t need to.

‘Gustavo is very similar, so if we needed him on the weekend we would’ve pushed him.

‘For these players - particularly Gustavo and Terry - is about a focus on whether they are fit for the international teams in the summer and then we’re going to go from there.’

Hayden Matthews, Harvey Blair and Luke Le Roux were all handed rare starts, while the likes of Regan Poole, Marlon Pack, Nicolas Schmid, Conor Shaughnessy sat out at the Bet365 Stadium.

And the head coach explained it’ll once again be a mixture this Saturday as the Blues look to end the campaign on a high.

‘Most likely it will be a mixture from what I thought was a competitive side, obviously, against Stoke the other week.

‘Birmingham are in very good form and they’re playing well. They’ve just come off the back of a really good result last weekend against Bristol City.

‘It is important that we try and end on a high, so whatever side we put out we want to be as competitive as possible.’
