Portsmouth goal hero highlights worrying defensive issues as Blues suffer latest Championship blow
Pompey fell to their fourth defeat in six games against Hull City on Saturday afternoon.
Terry Devlin vented his frustrations over Pompey’s defensive issues following their 3-2 defeat to Hull City.
But the Northern Ireland international is adamant the Blues’ are ‘not far away’ despite falling to their fourth defeat in six games.
The full-back was the highlight of the afternoon for John Mousinho’s men after netting twice in a frantic first half at the MKM Stadium.
Despite Devlin’s efforts, Pompey were unable to hold on to a point, with Leeds United loanee Joe Gelhardt snatching the victory in the 79th minute.
The defeat now extends the Blues’ winless run in the Championship to six games and head into the latest international break just above the relegation zone.
And the 22-year-old has highlighted his side’s defensive concerns as problems mount up for Mousinho’s side.
What frustrated Pompey goal hero after Hull defeat
He said after the defeat: ‘I’m frustrated. The result is not what we wanted. To come away from home and score two goals and still lose a game is obviously not what we want. It’s very frustrating at the minute.
‘We defended poorly. We showed good character to get back into it and in the second half we were pretty solid, it didn’t look like anything was going to happen. Then we switch off for one second and it’s in the back of the net.
‘It’s bittersweet for me at the minute, scoring my first goal in the Championship and then to get two but we don’t get the three points so it means nothing.
‘The most important thing would’ve been the three points but we’ve just got to get to the bottom of it and get out of this as quickly as possible.
‘I’ll be away on internationals but I know the coaching staff and the lads will be hard at work.
‘It’s been like that over the last couple of weeks. We’ve been working so hard but it’s just not going right at the moment. But there is still such a long season to go, there’s so much time to put it right so we’ve got to do that as quickly as possible.’
Pompey ‘not far away’ after latest blow

Pompey have claimed just three wins in their opening 15 matches of the campaign and remain four points above the relegation zone.
And Devlin has called for unity as they bid to end their difficult run of form when they return after the international break.
‘We are all really frustrated because we’re not far away. The lads put in so much work in the training ground and work so hard.
‘It’s just the small moments (where) we are not getting the rub of the green. It’s just frustrating but we have to stick together.
‘The most important thing now is sticking together as a whole club, the coaching staff, the lads, we’ve all got to stick together and drag each other along. We’ve got to recover now and use the break to just reset and attack the next part of the season.
