‘I don’t like it’: Portsmouth midfielder Ebou Adams admits Fratton frustration as role on bench continues at Burnley
Ebou Adams confessed to Pompey frustration after again finding himself on the bench at Burnley.
But the Blues favourite gave credit to his competition in the middle of the park, after again making an impact when entering the fray for John Mousinho’s side.
Adams again made a significant contribution when being introduced in the second half of the 0-0 draw at Turf Moor on Saturday.
It’s the fourth time the 30-year-old has done so in Pompey’s five-game unbeaten run, which has pushed them up the Championship table.
Those four substitute appearances have arrived amid a total nine outings when Adams has been introduced this term, with the £500,000 Derby County signing adding energy to his side when doing so.
The midfielder made it clear he’s not a role he’s comfortable with, however, but there has to be an acknowledgement that those playing in his place are also excelling.
Adams said: ‘I don’t like it, I don’t like being a sub - it’s frustrating.
‘You just have to put that frustration into your performances.
‘I hope my performances are having a positive impact on the team. Hopefully things can change and that impact can help me get into the team.
‘It’s just part of the game, though. If I don’t start I’ll still give the team everything.
‘I still feel I can affect both boxes defending and attacking, I’m happy to have a positive impact on the team.
‘If I’m on the bench I have to hold my head up high and continue giving everything.
‘I’ve got to give credit to those who are starting because they are just as good as me.
‘They’re doing really well and I have to respect that.
‘If that changes and I come in I’ll probably do just as good - or hopefully better!
‘It’s a team game, I respect the players and everyone that’s playing is doing really well.
‘We just have to bide our time and perform when the chance comes.’
Pompey’s draw at Burnley makes it five games unbeaten with just a single loss in nine games for Mousinho’s side.
That sees them sat comfortably in 11th place in the table - three points outside of the play-offs ahead of the visit of high-flying Swansea City on Tuesday night.
Adams isn’t getting carried away about his side’s movement up the Championship table, however.
He added: ‘I’m not looking at the table, I’m taking it game by game.
‘If we look at the table three months from now and we’re somewhere near there then I’ll think about that then.’
