Portsmouth handed Conor Shaughnessy injury boost as return dates for key men detailed

Injury news over Conor Shaughnessy, Josh Murphy and Colby Bishop in the wake of the win over Millwall.

Conor Shaughnessy is set for a return to selection availability at Burnley next week.

But Colby Bishop is facing between four and six weeks on the sidelines, after suffering a knee setback.

Mousinho on injuries: ‘Shaughs and Murph are hopefully back next week.’

Shaughnessy has handed Pompey a fitness fillip after missing the past five games, in the wake of the groin injury he picked up against Blackburn Rovers before the international break.

John Mousinho indicated this week a return at Bolton Wanderers after the next pause for international action was likely for the defender.

That date has now been brought forward to the trip to Turf Moor, where Josh Murphy is also expected to be back in action.

Mousinho explained both men were also a consideration for the win over Millwall, but a change in Pompey’s build-up to the game meant they weren’t risked.

He said: ‘Shaughs and Murph are hopefully back for next week.

‘It was touch and go for them today. Murph trained on Wednesday, but it was too much of a risk.

‘We didn’t manage to train on the grass yesterday because of the storm and training on astro wasn’t an option for Murph.

‘We went to Moneyfields and did warm-up boxes, set-pieces and shape so Shaughs couldn’t get in a session either.

‘But if we can get a good week into them, they could be back for Burnley.’

Meanwhile, Bishop is facing a stint on the sidelines as some more details emerge over the extent of his knee injury.

The striker felt the issue in the warm-up ahead of last weekend’s win at Norwich and has subsequently kept him sidelined for the past two games.

Bishop will not be required to undergo surgery and could be out for up to six weeks, though Mousinho explained that time span is not totally defined.

Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent: ‘The update is we’re not 100 per cent on how long he’ll be out.

‘We were hopeful it would be a couple of weeks, but it’s looking longer than that.

‘There’s no surgery required but hopefully he’ll be back in four-to-six weeks, but we’re not entirely sure. We’ll have wait for that bone bruising and everything around his knee to settle down.’
