'Strip them of their contracts. Sack Alonso': Angry Chelsea verdict after impressive Portsmouth triumph
Pompey defeated Premier League Chelsea 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Saturday.
Chelsea fans on social media have been far from impressed following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Pompey.
The contest was one factored in to keep the Blues ticking over amid the three-week international break they are currently in the midst of, with the impressive success boosting confidence ahead of this Sunday’s south-coast derby against Southampton.
Indeed, Pompey picked up an eye-catching 2-0 triumph against Xabi Alonso’s side, which reportedly included a mix of youth players and senior stars who are returning to full fitness.
Although the mid-season friendly was played behind-closed-doors, that hasn’t stopped some Chelsea supporters taking to social media to voice their displeasure at the defeat.
Alonso’s side currently sit 10th in the standings ahead of their Premier League return this weekend, with some fans already turning on the head coach who only took their reins in July.
Here’s the best of the Chelsea reaction from X.
Chelsea faithful fume after Pompey friendly defeat
@jehmyE: This is a joke right?
@ajmaxwell5: What on earth is Alonso actually cooking in training.
@GabbyOnlyX: Nothing to worry about for a 2-0 loss to Portsmouth??? Lol.
@OmekaraWisdom: God it’s just one week until Xabi ball, I’m not ready for all this. Is there a way we can extend this international break.
@MlrPaul2001: We are even conceding 2 to Portsmouth? Lord help us.
@CJHCFC1994: Plenty of seniors back too, not good at all.
@katleho_villain: We need to sack Alonso.
@bluebrigade_ke: What was the starting 11.... I bet Gusto and Fofana were starting. STRIP THEM OF THEIR CONTRACTS NOW!!
@CFC_ZUNOX: Portsmouth finished 18th last season by the way.
@TommyTsblues: Extend the international break...
@FPL_Gaurav: Huh what? Did we (Chelsea) just lost to Portsmouth? Would like to look at the line up for this match. Clearly Chelsea without Joao Pedro is just not it. I fear owning Palmer and Rogers both.
@machyy6figs: Who are the players that played this game? Hope they are all academy players.
@St__TheGoat: Loool what a joke a lot of these players are part of the main team.
@RowanCyril: When are the alarm bells supposed to sound exactly?!
@stevostarz7: So Portsmouth beat Chelsea 2–0 behind closed doors? Please, add one more week to the international break I’m not ready.
@_VINCYM: What do you mean nothing to worry about??? We just got cooked and you think that's positive, ain't no way we should be doing better than that, coming back from the international break we need to play possession ball, Under Xabi we haven't controlled any game which is frustrating.
@calax12: They lost to Portsmouth. Regardless of what the format is/was, that's inexcusable.
