Portsmouth rivals tracking £13m Leeds United talent as Southampton star wants out after spygate
The latest transfer headlines involving Pompey’s Championship rivals.
The close-season is well underway and the future of John Mousinho remains a hot topic at Fratton Park.
The in-demand head coach has been touted with a move away since the season finale earlier this month, with Bristol City initially keen to land the 40-year-old.
Although the Robins have moved on to other targets in their managerial hunt, The News revealed on Thursday that the Blues boss’ name was on the radar of Stoke City.
News of the Potters’ interest comes amid growing uncertainty over Mark Robins’ future following a disappointing 17th-placed finish.
There is plenty of gossip and speculation doing the rounds elsewhere in the Championship as the clock ticks towards the market’s opening on June 15.
Here are the latest transfer headlines involving the Blues’ second-tier rivals.
Championship duo consider Leeds United raid
Stoke City and Birmingham City have both listed Leeds United striker Joel Piroe as a top transfer target this summer.
That’s according to TEAMtalk, who have revealed the Championship duo are tracking the 26-year-old ahead of a potential swoop.
The report claims Rangers have also registered an interest in the frontman, who is set to consider his Elland Road future after struggling for game time in the Premier League.
Piroe has netted just one goal in 20 appearances for Leeds in all competitions this term, but is set to enter the final 12 months of his current deal.
Following his £13m from Swansea City in 2023, the Suriname international has scored 34 goals and collected 10 assists in 117 outings for Daniel Farke’s side - and finished as the Championship’s top scorer on their way to league title.
Piroe is reportedly contemplating his long-term future having fallen down the pecking order at Elland Road, but is said to be wanted by a host of Pompey’s second-tier rivals.
Southampton star wants out after spygate

Caspar Jander is reportedly attracting interest from native Germany following Southampton’s expulsion from Saturday’s play-off final.
Tonda Eckert’s side will now remain in the Championship next season, where they will also start on minus four points.
According to German news outlet BILD, Jander is looking depart St Mary's this summer after Southampton missed out on the Premier League.
The article suggests the midfielder, who made a £10m move from Nuremberg 12-months ago, is being tracked by a host of Bundesliga sides - including Stuttgart.
The 23-year-old amassed 43 outings for Eckert’s side this term, which included outings in both south-coast derby stalemates against Pompey in September and January.
