Championship duo set to battle over £4.8m former Portsmouth target as Sheffield Wednesday eye ex-Manchester United man

The latest transfer headlines involving Pompey and their Championship rivals.

The latest international break of the campaign is well underway, with more than a week to go until Pompey are back in action.

It’s been a frustrating start to the season for the Blues, who sit just four points above the relegation zone in 20th position.

John Mousinho’s men return to PO4 next week to face Millwall hoping to return to winning ways after a barren run has seen them pick up just one victory in their previous 11 matches.

The January window is on the horizon, with the football operations at Fratton Park already sounding out potential additions.

Elsewhere, their Championship rivals are all working away ahead of the market which gets underway in less than two months time.

Here are the latest transfer headlines involving the Blues’ second-tier rivals.

Duo do battle over striker

Former Pompey target Abdoulie Manneh is the subject of heavy Championship interest.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding 2025 season for Swedish outfit Mjallby AIF, who claimed the Allsvenskan title for the first time, with the forward netting seven goals and registering three assists in 28 outings.

With the campaign coming to a close last month, the Gambia international is on the radar of a number of English second-tier sides, according to Swedish news outlet FotbollDirekt.

Coventry City have been joined in the pursuit by fellow promotion rivals Stoke City, with the article suggesting Manneh has been valued at £4.8m.

A third club is believed to be in the running for the winger, as per Mjallby sporting director Hasse Larsson - although they remain unnamed.

Pompey were heavily linked with the young talent during the summer transfer window, alongside Burnley, Brentford, Bournemouth and Wolves. Meanwhile, Turkish giant Olympiacos were also believed to be circulating.

Although the forward, who can operate in attack or out wide, was on the Blues’ radar, the football operations at Fratton Park expected a move to a top European club before the September 1 deadline.

Owls set for defensive swoop

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly eyeing a move for defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Our sister paper, The Star, have claimed the Owls are drawing up a list of potential options as they eye free agent additions before the January window.

Among them are Liam Cooper, who was linked with Pompey in 2024 , and Fosu-Mensah, who was last with Bayer Leverkusen.

The ex-Manchester United man has spent more than a year without a club but is being tracked by Wednesday as they await clarity from the EFL of any potential incomings.

The left-back registered 30 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit after making the £1.8m move in January 2021.

Preston North End, Bristol City, West Brom are tracking Brighton talent Amario Cozier-Duberry, according to BBC Sport.

The Championship trio are believed to be keen on landing the 19-year-old in the January transfer window after an outstanding start to the season with Bolton Wanderers.

The winger has netted seven goals and registered seven assists in League One this term, which has helped the Trotters to third position.

Although the Seagulls are happy with Cozier-Duberry’s performances at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, the Premier League outfit could sanction a recall option to allow him to make a loan move to the second tier.
