‘That says enough’: Portsmouth's Championship season assessed after mixed start

Pompey head into the international break 14th in the Championship.

Pompey fans on social media have been given their verdict over the Blues start to the new Championship season.

After Saturday’s 1-0 win over promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough, John Mousinho’s men have gone into the second international break of the campaign in 14th place.

It was a much-needed victory at Fratton Park after a tough set of results had seen Pompey slip down the table after defeats to Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town.

The Blues have won three, drawn three and lost three of their opening nine games, despite a number of key injuries throughout the opening weeks of the season.

We asked the Fratton faithful to give their verdict on the start to the season - and here’s what they had to say on social media.

What Pompey fans have said on season start

Chris Cooper: Pretty happy overall. Despite some big injuries and new players bedding in we're mid-table and managing to turn in some good performances. Bishop isn't getting service. Swift seems to lose the ball a lot. Chaplin needs to find his feet. Yang has settled in well. Bursik looks decent. Pack can't track well now but he keep things ticking. Blair is showing promise. Growing up we were a mid to bottom Div 1 side, so this feels very natural! End the season mid-table with no relegation worry and I'd consider that good progress.

Peter Elliot: Up and down as usual!we play bottom teams and loose then play top teams and win! Nothing changes there! Hopefully get players back from injury to rise in the table! Still support come what May.

Pete Tiffin: We're missing four key players in Nico, Shaughs, and Murphy & Lang, which will impact our performance at both ends of the pitch. The league is full of surprises, but we've been more solid than last season, except for that poor display against Sheffield Weds. Pretty happy so far.

Alex Bennett: Excited for Murphy’s return. Bishop needs some better service from the wing. All round pretty good all things considered.

Cameron Gillon: You have to evaluate now to this time last season, we have 8 more points, and 9 positions higher than we were last year. We also wanted and should have got more from our games this season where we dropped points. That says enough I think.

Gresham Fenton: Better then last year so all good

Dan Greest: I think you have to compare season on season , and the strategy the owners want is improvement whether big or small , we are above last seasons start, our squad is in my opinion stronger, good depth maybe weak in a few areas but last season of we was struck with big injuries. We couldn't turn to our fringe players, but Yang has slotted in well for Murphy , Knight for Shaughnessy and our keeper has done a good job. Off the pitch I think our window was better than last summer. Overall.... good but must maintain being good, we will lose games but turning it around after is vital and we seem to not get to low.

Kim Banks: Well considering our start looked promising, then a few injuries again but hopefully the players we have will steady the ship and continue with confidence.

Simon Branford: Look at where we were at this stage last season, we have improved drastically and I am very happy with it so far.

Barry Watts: Worried about how much Swift gives the ball away in important areas, not sure he is the answer. I love Terry Devlin who gives nothing short of 100% energy and drive. Need more like him.
