The £4.5m Portsmouth title-winning favourite whose future is once again in spotlight

Pompey fans would love to see the League One title winner back at Fratton Park, with his future currently unclear.

He’s part of a European football push and last month featured against La Liga champions Barcelona.

But former Pompey favourite Abu Kamara’s future is once again likely to be under the spotlight this summer, after a season hindered by injury and a lack of first-team football.

Kamara’s future in doubt after difficult La Liga season with Getafe

The Hull City man has spent the campaign in Madrid with Getafe, who have ambitions of playing in Europe next term.

They currently sit seventh in a congested table and in one of the eight spots set to earn a berth in the Champions League, Europa League or Uefa Conference League.

It’s not quite been the dream move Kamara was anticipating when the Blue Tide fended off interest from the likes of Rangers and Birmingham City to land the 22-year-old last September.

The Londoner moved on a season-long loan deal 12 months on from signing for Hull in a £4.5m move, following Kamara’s breakout season at Fratton Park on loan from Norwich City.

The League One title winner has started just a single game in Spain, however, along with 11 further appearances from the bench.

And Kamara’s season has also been decimated by an ankle injury, which kept him sidelined for three months from December until March.

There was a suggestion he would end up back at his parent club in that period, but returned to the Coliseum Stadium where there’s been three sub outings over the past month.

Kamara has two years to run on his agreement at the MKM Stadium, who last night became the first club to book their place in the Championship play-off final with victory over Millwall.

Whether they make it to the Premier League or not may have an impact on the winger’s future with the Tigers moving forward.

No doubt Pompey fans would love to see Kamara back at PO4, with the Blues having to focus on their own attacking reinforcements this summer.

He is, of course, remembered fondly for his 10 goals and 11 assists in that never-to-be-forgotten League One title success.

Hopes were high Kamara could join permanently, but when the size of the fee Hull were willing to pay for the Lambeth-born man became apparent a move to Pompey was never on the cards.

Kamara said: 'I haven’t forgotten what happened last year. It was a special group and Fratton Park was a special place to be.

‘So I just wanted to show my appreciation to the fans.

‘It was nice seeing everyone again and when I came into the stadium I was actually shaking.

‘Being here brought back so many memories - it was definitely good to be back here.

‘It was definitely nice to hear them sing that song to me again!

‘When I came here last season I was a raw boy and those supporters had my back, so it was only right that I clapped the whole stadium because they were always there for me.

‘It wasn’t the case at all (he could come to Pompey), what happened happened and now I’m a Hull player - and I’m happy to be a Hull player.

‘It would honestly be great to see both clubs push on from here.’
